COST OF SOLAR PANEL

Cost of solar panel installation is finally becoming financially feasible, at least for large companies, because of a “third wave” of solar energy technology that is literally rolling off of the production line. The solar panels produced by Nanosolar might not even be called “panels”. Film seems a more apt description for the end result of their process – and this film could revolutionize solar power as we know it. Nanosolar’s solar cells are printed on aluminum foil like newsprint on newspaper and are called by some “thin-film” technology. Nanosolar projects that they will be able to sell their product profitably for 99 cents per watt, which is comparable to the cost of producing energy with coal. Initially, they are looking at industrial-scale applications. One of the first applications of their solar panels will be at a power plant in Germany.

Similar film technology is being developed by other companies and studied at universities, so someday all of us can wrap our homes in it. But until then, what’s a person who wants solar energy to do? Is the cost of solar panels too much to justify their installation? Yes and (sometimes) no.

Currently, the initial cost of solar panels is usually prohibitive for most people to use exclusively to power their home. And most utilities charge a flat rate for the energy you use, so you don’t get the cost benefit of cooking your dinner with solar power during peak energy-use times. But both of these situations are changing. Municipalities are considering charging for power based on time of usage and the initial cost of solar panel installation is going down. You can also plan to use solar power for only part of your energy needs. And, depending on your usage, you might make a bit of change selling your excess energy back to the electric company.

To decide if some solar power is for you, start by figuring out your usage by adding the wattage listed on all electric items you use. If the power consumption is listed in amps, multiply amps by voltage to get (wattage). Count TVs, air conditioners, the refrigerator(s). Don’t forget things like light bulbs, hairdryers, printers, and gadgets. Now take those numbers and multiply them by the hours in a day you use them. (Refrigerators should be calculated at 24 hours, hairdryers at maybe one. Finally, add them up. This sum is an approximation of your daily wattage use.

You can also use information on your utility bill to figure your daily wattage use. Find the number of kilowatt hours used per month. Divide that number by the number of days in the billing period to get your average daily kilowatt usage. Now since a kilowatt equals 1000 watts, multiply your daily kilowatt usage by 1000 to get your daily watt usage. It will probably be higher than you think. But it will help you accurately determine the cost of solar panel installation for your home.

For those of you who are building in the country, there is what’s called the “half-mile rule”. It is currently cheaper to wholly power your house with solar panels (or other on-site options) than it is to be hooked to the grid if the power company has to install a half-mile of equipment. And that half mile is going to be getting shorter. The cost of coal energy is going up and the cost of solar panels is going down. Soon, solar power will be a viable option for all of us.

WELCOME TO SOLAR ENERGY - SOLAR POWER !

More and more people are looking for information on how to implement and use the sun’s power to provide much needed energy at an affordable price.

WHAT ARE SOLAR PANELS? HOW DO THEY WORK? LEARN THE TECHNOLOGY

Solar panels (SP) or sometimes called photovoltaic (PV) panels are made from materials that can allow it to convert the sun’s rays into electrical energy.

SOLAR PANEL MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY IN SIMPLE WORDS

Solar panels are continuing to improve and offer us viable solutions to the trouble of relying on fossil fuels for our energy.

FLEXIBLE SOLAR PANEL

If you only need a low wattage solar panel, the innovations in flexible solar panels may be just the solution for you. Just as the name says, these solar panels are flexible.

RV SOLAR PANELS

From simple battery maintenance to fulltime live power, RV solar panels and kits gives you independence from fuel, fumes, and noise of generators.

SOLAR PV PANELS

Solar PV panels or photovoltaic (PV) cells produce electricity from the rays of the sun. Multiple solar panels can be coupled into larger arrays to produce significant amounts of power.

DISADVANTAGES OF SOLAR PANELS

Disadvantages of solar panels need to be considered whether you are comparing them to staying on the grid or comparing them to other “green” energy sources like hydro or wind.

HOW A SOLAR PANEL WORKS

How a solar panel works is pretty basic. The photovoltaic cells on the solar panel absorb some of the light’s energy into their semiconductor material.

ROLL SOLAR PANEL

Roll solar panel is a new way to take quick and easy power with you. The technology behind these flexible, rollable, versatile solar panels is called “thin-film” technology.

SOLAR PANEL FOR HOUSE

Solar panel for house or solar panels for household use are becoming more popular for several reasons. The cost of coal power is going up.

SOLAR PANEL MOUNTING FRAMES AND MOUNTING TIPS

No matter where or how you plan to mount your solar panels there are certain considerations that greatly affect the efficiency, structure, and lifetime of the panels.

SOLAR PANEL PORTABLE

Solar panel portable or portable solar panels are becoming very popular. Solar-powered calculators have been around for years.

PRINTABLE SOLAR PANELS

Printable solar panels from new polymer-based technology may one day allow consumers to practically print their own energy.

SOLAR PANEL ARRAYS

Panel arrays have been used for years to power satellites, remote weather stations, and on islands where other power sources are not usable or practical

SOLAR PANEL ROOF TILES

Solar panel roof tiles are made with built-in photovoltaic cells and are designed to blend in with most types of roof tiles whether they are concrete, slate, or shingle.

SOLAR PANEL POOL HEATERS

Solar panel pool heaters are one of the most cost-effective uses of solar energy today. You can easily add a solar pool heater to a pool with or without an existing heater.

SOLAR PANELS SYSTEMS

Typical roof-mounted solar panels, or any other roof-based application, require that you have a south-facing roof surface that is not shaded.

SOLAR PANEL RESIDENTIAL

Solar panel residential use is more popular than ever.Solar panel residential installation has been around a long time.

SOLAR PANELS AND PHOTOVOLTAIC SHINGLES

Solar panels and photovoltaic shingles are both good ways to collect the sun’s energy on the roof of your home. Each choice has pros and cons you should consider before you decide which option is for you.

WHAT IS A SOLAR PANEL?

A solar panel is a way to collect the sun’s energy and convert it into electrical energy that we can use
