Future solar power will most likely be what releases the world from energy shortages. With the current research that is involved and the recent advances in technology, panel efficiency is on the rise and will soon be a very popular choice among existing home owners and home builders. Not only PV cells but different methods are used in capturing energy from the sun and directing it to work for you. In one day there is enough solar energy hitting the earth to supply all the energy needs of the globe for an entire year. The struggle we face right now is the low efficiency of photovoltaic cells with relation to the high cost. Though there are new panels that are much more efficient, they are not available to the public yet. It is the opinion of many scientists that the future lies with solar energy. It is possible that fossil fuels will be more expensive than solar energy as long as technology keeps advancing. There is a product already that can make this happen. It is a thin sheet of foil that can be placed anywhere and is 200 times lighter than the normal glass PV module. It can be mounted with a sticky backing and still produce electricity. It can be shaded to match your home. Already in Europe & USA people are coming to their senses and realizing that renewable energy is the future and outfitting factories and homes with solar equipment. China is also implementing solar power for its future growth. Solar will definitely increase the growth rate of countries and make energy available in remote locations. The possibilities are endless as this new thin film becomes available. There is also research on spray on solar collectors that could be sprayed on vests that can provide energy for charging cell phones or other small devices. The goal for the future solar power is to reach 5 cents per kilowatt hour and 50 percent efficiency which is a long way from the15 percent that we get with current PV cells. PV roofing shingles will not only produce electricity but take heat away from attic spaces allowing heat in the house to rise and therefore drawing in cooler air. It is only a matter of time before solar becomes affordable and not a matter of should I, but a matter of I need to. This day is not far out and with continuing efforts of green enthusiasts this day will become a reality for most people alive today.
