Ongrid solar energy is by far the cheapest form when compared to off grid solar energy. By generating your own electricity you reduce your electrical bill and in some cases may generate money by running the meter backwards (net metering). Usually you can achieve net metering during the day when all your appliances are off. This net metering or extra power is sold to the utility company through a program offered that you must sign up for. Also green power is handy during power failures so long as you have sunlight for your ongrid solar system.
The most common size of roof top ongrid systems are 2.5 kW facing south, and will produce that 2.5 kW during peak conditions. To fund the initial expense of producing your own electricity from solar panels there are programs offered by government agencies such as buy backs to offset initial costs, and tax incentives or rebates. The two most common grid tie systems are basic and grid tie plus backup.
Grid tie solar systems that are basic reduce your meter rate during the day when there is production and then your meter runs off of the grid during the night. Grid tie plus backup runs the same as the basic but in the event of a power failure it will use batteries that store previously made electricity. In short, if there is a power failure on the grid, your system will turn off and disconnect from the grid to prevent injuries to anybody working on or near damaged grid lines.
The batteries will in turn be the source of power to youre home and reconnect when power has been restored to the grid. There are different ways you can mount solar panels to roofs or brackets that are remote from the home. There are even pre wired systems that include all hardware needed to set up a system either for the professional or handyman. A major benefit of these systems include the ability to be expanded as finances allow, they work against global warming on your own personal level, reduced electrical bills, security with backup systems, and remote availability of electricity.
Ongrid is cheaper than off grid and works hand in hand with the electrical company to distribute the electricity that you produce to supply your needs and the extra is then sold off though a special reversible meter that is available through the power company. If you system doesn’t meet the demands of electricity you require, then the grid (electrical company) will begin to supply your needs automatically.
