Solar power fact: There are many truths about solar power and there are many rumours. So to erase any doubts you have to these rumours or facts, we gathered the facts and have decided to share them.
There are thousands of people using solar power to heat their homes and provide natural lighting and electricity.
There is enough sunlight hitting the earth every hour to supply global energy demands for one year. Day lighting is a passive way to use solar energy to heat or cool your house. This is done by using windows, walls, heat conducting material such as rocks and tile, and home positioning to get the most out of the suns position in relation to the home. Solar power is being used to heat swimming pools by placing coils on the roof that collect the energy and heat water. Solar energy is also used to dry cloths, power attic fans, small appliances, yard lights, and power cars and airplanes. Solar arrays require a large amount of area to produce a large amount of power; this can be a disadvantage in urban areas. Overproduction of solar power may be purchased by the local utility company. Solar systems can power a house and be completely independent of the power grid or utility company. PV systems are upgradeable by adding panels to produce more electricity. Solar panels can charge batteries and you can use the stored solar energy in the battery when it is dark out or your solar panels are not producing electricity.
Another solar power fact is that the first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Albert Einstein in 1921 for experimentation of photovoltaic’s and solar power.
The silicon from one ton of sand that is used in silicon wafers can produce enough electricity as 500,000 tons of coal. Electricity bills can be cut in half by using a solar water heater. Solar power panels produce shade for houses on which they lie. If you covered every roof on a commercial or industrial building in California, you would provide enough electricity each day for that day. Another interesting solar power fact - It takes 8 minutes for the energy from the sun to hit the earth. During a blackout, an off grid solar setup will still provide electricity as if you never knew it happened. A well designed passive solar power house will require less active solar power than one without a passive system. Solar panels use photons to loosen electrons so they can migrate to one side of the panel which in turn creates an electric potential.
