Solar Power Pros and Cons

Solar power pros and cons are many, but either way you look at it the pros will always out weigh the cons. As we all know the sun can provide us with an endless source of clean and renewable energy. We will go over the pros and cons of using solar power for your home. Many people are drawn to solar power as a source of electricity for your home, just to save money. Although you must spend money to save money in this case, once the solar energy system is installed the energy you are receiving is free. After all the sun shines for free, right. In most cases the government is giving tax incentives and rebates to people that install solar panels and tie to a grid. With governments promoting solar power people will be better able to afford it and this can help slow down the greenhouse effect. Another pro about using solar panels is that the price is set, once you install your system you won’t have to pay for increases in electricity (unless you use more than you are producing) due to increases in price of a barrel of oil as we have seen in the past few years.
The big con involved in installing a solar system is the cost. The components that make up a solar system are expensive, but the sooner you install a system the sooner you can save money. Another con is that different areas of the globe have different exposure to sunlight. With this being said you will find the more concentrated and more reliable sunlight near the equator. There are now several companies that are making new solar panels that outperform silicon based systems up to 10 times. One very nice thing about solar energy is the ability to design a passive solar system directly into your home. This way you can do as much green work as you can and add PV cells in the future. If you design your home with the passive system in mind, be it windows, tiles, air exchanger walls, or anything that uses solar energy to bring a desired effect, you will save money because your active system (PV) will not need to supply as much electricity as it would have had to without the passive system. Keeping this in mind there are many solar power pros and cons, and whether or not you choose to use solar energy, it will always be there waiting.
